Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung Galaxy S5

Recently, I bought the Samsung Galaxy S5. I noticed that many people were criticizing the phone. Telling different reasons as why buying this phone is a waste of money. For eg- Its screen is not big enough, the menu looks different and ugly...etc. But by using this phone for approx. 5 hrs. I discovered that all the criticism the phone getting is that its not right.
Actually the phone is very nice and beautiful. The phone back cover texture is beautiful. the phone is slim. The features in the phone are impeccable. i have not seen any phone like that. The phone is fast.
I guess by writing the features in this way is gonna take me one week to list them all.
So here is the list:-
  • Fast Auto Focus
  • HDR(Rich tone)
  • Selective Focus
  • Heart Rate Sensor
  • S Health
  • Dust & Water Resistant
  • Finger Scanner
  • Ultra Power Saving Mode
  • 12.95 cm (5.1") Full HD Super AMOLED Display

So lets discuss the features:-

Fast Auto Focus

Galaxy S5 fast auto focus helps you capture important moments of movement more quickly and in focus. Most smartphones need 1-2 seconds for auto focus.  As a comparison, most decent digital cameras only needs 0.1-0.3 seconds.Samsung claims the speed of Galaxy S5 fast auto focus is 0.3 seconds. For a moving object, the Galaxy S5 fast auto focus is able to help you to capture the motion without blurred foreground or background. For stationary objects, of course, you can take picture quicker than others with slower auto focus.

HDR(rich tone)

Normal cameras take photographs with a limited exposure range. This leads to the loss of detail in bright or dark areas. HDR compensates for such loss of detail by capturing multiple photographs at different exposure levels and combining them to produce a photograph representative of a broader tonal range. In other words, HDR is able to cope with overexposed and underexposed problem on an image.
Uniqueness about the S5 is that For other smartphones, to take a HDR photo, you have to hold the smartphone still for a long time until multiple (usually 3) photos with different exposure levels are taken.
However,  Galaxy S5 HDR gives you instant preview of the photo that will be taken in HDR, instead of showing you the dark or light preview.
Because Galaxy S5 HDR photos are  taken faster, it is not necessary to hold S5 still for long time to take a HDR photo. It is almost instant, probably partially due to the Galaxy S5 fast auto focus.

Selective Focus

Galaxy S5 Selective Focus allows you to focus on what’s important by blurring the background and accentuating the main subject in defined detail.
Essentially, Galaxy S5 selective focus lets you choose to focus on the foreground, background, or focus evenly across the image. That's pretty awesome for the guys who like to update their fb profile pic and want them to be unique. This can also be done on photoshop ,but just to save time the S5 provides a convenient way of selective focusing. Unfortunately, Galaxy S5 selective focus works with photos only. You cannot use this feature for taking videos.
The main reason is selective focus does not track the motion of the object. Also, the additional processing efforts needed make it impractical to use this feature for videos.

Heart Rate Sensor

By placing your finger over the sensor on the back of the Galaxy S5 (next to the camera flash),  heart rate monitor will measure your heart rate in a few seconds. During the measurement, you need keep quiet and still.
For the technical point of view, Galaxy S5 heart rate monitor is different from traditional or professional heart rate sensors. Galaxy S5 heart rate monitor uses light to check your blood flow beneath the skin. Based on the blood flow patterns (e.g., peaks and valleys), Galaxy S5 then calculates and reports the heart rate.

S health

In Galaxy S4, Samsung first introduced the S Health App.  Because there are so many bling-bling features in S4, S Health app failed to get deserved attention.
As Samsung wants to make Galaxy S5 part of our  healthier lifestyle, they further enhanced the Galaxy S5 S Health app to make it a reliable fitness tracker.
The most significant new feature of the new S Health app is the new, unified dashboard.
In addition to walking mate and food tracker, Galaxy S5 new S Health app now also can track your heart rate, because of the new addition of the heart rate sensor.
Hiking was added to the Exercise Mate. So, in the new exercise mate, the workout includes running, walking, cycling and hiking.
S Heath app can sync with your Gear Fit, in addition to other fitness gadgets.

Dust & Water Resistant

Galaxy S5 can survival from some dust and water attacks.Galaxy S5 is NOT waterproof.  You should not immerse it in water for long time, and you should not go beyond 1m.
Of course, it is safe to take out your Galaxy S5 in the rain.
Please note, for Galaxy S5, you need cover the USB port in the bottom to make it water resistant.
Galaxy S5, you only need cover USB port (multipurpose jack). It is not necessary to cover the headset jack or any other mics.

Finger Scanner

The Galaxy S5's fingerprint scanner sits within the home button, just as on the Apple iPhone 5S, but they work differently. Apple's technology uses a press and hold action to unlock the device, while Samsung's requires you to swipe vertically across the home button to register your print.

The Galaxy S5 fingerprint scanner won't just let you unlock your device, you will also be able to use it as an alternative to entering passwords and the company has released the SDK for the Galaxy S5, which will open up the fingerprint technology to developers.

The SDK will enable developers to integrate it into their own applications on Google Play because of the Pass API within it, which is something that Apple didn't allow. Samsung's has also made it into the Fast Identity Online Alliance that works to ensure mobile security.

Ultra Power Saving Mode

Ultra Power Saving mode offers is an experience that limits your smartphone to only offer the basics, but will leave you with a device that can potentially last for over 10 days with a single charge. The standby time and usage time will differ, but this could come in handy while camping, or many other scenarios.
Ultra Power Saving mode puts the phone into a grey-scale black and white mode, and disables most features. However, users will still be able to use the device as a “smart” phone and along with calls, texts, and emails, you can also browse the web, and even Facebook for those social butterflies.
Samsung claims even 5% battery life will last nearly 8 hours (or overnight) in standby if you’re using Ultra Power Saving mode. This is extremely useful for those nights you don’t have a charger, while camping, and especially in case of emergencies.
the phone becomes a basic phone, but will still offer web browsing and a few other important aspects. Location, GPS, colors, and tons of other sensors and features are all disabled. Many users love everything the Galaxy S5 has to offer but if you don’t need them, or are in a bind, this Ultra Power Saving mode could really come in handy.
